1963 Chevrolet
Sold — $38,000
The Corvair's whole premise was the engine in the back. This one has a small-block Chevy in the front, a Mustang II front end underneath it, and the original engine bay converted into a trunk.
This 1963 Chevrolet Corvair Monza Spyder has been modified with a front-mounted 283ci V8, a four-speed manual transmission, a Mustang II front end, a solid rear axle, and adjustable coilovers. The project was reportedly carried out over two years by the previous owner and also included a repaint in Saddle Tan and interior customization with new tan vinyl upholstery. Approximately 1,900 miles have been driven since completion in spring 2019, with actual mileage unknown. The car was acquired by the selling owner in 2021 and is offered with a clean California title.
Exterior
The body wears a two-stage repaint in Saddle Tan (932). A front grille has been added, and other details include factory deck lid louvers along with 283 and SS badges. Painted 15" rally wheels with chrome accents wear Firestone tires up front and Primewell rubber at the rear. The soft top has been removed and a new top is required, though the mechanism functions properly. Some paint chips are present on the driver's door jamb.
Chassis, Suspension & Brakes
A Mustang II-style front suspension and steering setup was reportedly sourced from Johnny Law Motors and features tubular A-arms, rack-and-pinion steering, and disc brakes. A solid rear axle with traction bars and drum brakes is located at the rear, and adjustable coilovers are fitted at all four corners.
Interior
Interior work reportedly included new bucket seat covers, a rear cushion, and custom-fit carpets tailored to fit over the added transmission tunnel. The dash and other exposed sheet metal were repainted in body color. A stock steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer flanked by four auxiliary gauges. No radio is installed, though a speaker grille remains present, and an SS badge has been mounted to the glovebox door.
Engine & Drivetrain
The former front trunk is now home to a 283ci Chevrolet V8 that reportedly features 1.94" stainless steel intake valves with hardened seats, tube headers feeding dual exhausts, finned valve covers, and a chrome air cleaner over a Holley four-barrel carburetor. An aluminum radiator rests on a fabricated support behind the grille. The four-speed manual transmission and solid rear axle are said to have been sourced from a 1980s Chevrolet S10 pickup. The rear engine bay has been converted to a storage trunk with a texture-coated sheet metal floor, a battery mounted against the left inner quarter panel, and a fuel tank positioned behind the forward bulkhead. An oil change was performed in preparation for the sale.
Note: Additional details including VIN, build documentation, and further photography will be provided to serious inquiries.
