1972 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am

The exterior is exactly as the family found it in 2013 — original paint, original bodywork, wearing its age honestly. Everything underneath it was rebuilt.

This 1972 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am retains its factory bodywork and paint as purchased by the current owner's family in 2013. An extensive mechanical restoration was completed in 2014 by Vintage Motor Works, during which the engine was pulled and rebuilt to high-performance specification, reportedly producing approximately 650 horsepower. The car has covered roughly 2,000 to 3,000 miles since that work.

Exterior

The exterior presents in driver-quality condition, with visible signs of use and age consistent with older paint. Distinctive styling elements include the shaker hood scoop, Trans Am badging, a front air dam, and the flared wheel arches that define the second-generation Firebird. The factory color and originality of the body have been preserved intentionally, contrasting with the extensive performance work beneath.

Interior

The cabin has not been significantly modified from factory configuration and retains the classic Trans Am driver-focused layout, with supportive bucket seats, a three-spoke steering wheel, and analog instrumentation.

Engine & Drivetrain

The engine was pulled and rebuilt to high-performance specification, reportedly producing approximately 650 horsepower, and the transmission was fully rebuilt. The suspension and shocks were refreshed and the braking system upgraded. A recent full service included an oil change, coolant flush, brake line replacement, and fluid changes for the transmission and differential. New tires have been installed. The car is said to run strong and reliably, with limited miles added since the mechanical work was completed.

History & Documentation

The car has remained within the same family since 2013, originally purchased by the current owner's father, who commissioned the restoration. The work was performed personally by the owner of Vintage Motor Works, a specialty shop known for vintage American muscle builds; that shop owner has since passed away and the business is now run by his son. Following the father's death, title and stewardship transferred to his son, the current owner. Efforts are underway to locate build specifications and original invoices for the restoration work, and a recent service invoice will accompany the sale.
