1979 MG
Sold — $6,500
1979 was the final full year of the MGB, by which point the car had been in production for sixteen years with the essential recipe left largely alone. This one has been driven in Targa California rallies rather than parked.
This 1979 MGB Roadster has been maintained and restored by the current owner since 2013. It is finished in gloss green with a new black vinyl top over a tan and black interior, and is powered by a 1.8-liter four-cylinder paired with a four-speed manual transmission. The odometer shows 76,000 miles.
Exterior
The paint is generally in good condition, with minor dents noted on the passenger door near the edge and a small dent on the quarter panel. All glass is in good shape and free from damage. The chrome trim is well preserved with no pitting, though the weather stripping — particularly on the front windshield — is dried and cracked and would need replacement. The headlights, taillights, and bumpers are all in good condition, and the body panels are properly aligned. The vinyl top is new.
Wheels & Brakes
The car rides on multi-spoke 15" wheels with 205/60 R15 Falken ZX ZE 912 tires. The tires date from 2011 but show no visible cracking and retain plenty of tread. Braking is by front discs and rear drums.
Interior
The cabin is trimmed in tan and black and highlighted by a wood-grain steering wheel. The vinyl seats and door panels show no signs of wear, with no tears or cracks. A minor tear is present in the sheet metal on the passenger door near the mirror and will require repair. All electronics function properly, including the horn, dashboard instruments, turn signals, headlights, and taillights.
Engine & Drivetrain
The 1.8-liter four-cylinder is paired with a four-speed manual transmission. Extensive mechanical work has been carried out, including a valve job and cylinder head work. The car cruises at freeway speeds of 60 to 70 mph at around 4,000 rpm and is described as quick and agile on city streets, having been actively campaigned in Targa California rallies.
Note: Additional details including VIN, service records, and further photography will be provided to serious inquiries.
