The E34 was the last M5 assembled by hand. Before M became a volume business, a small team in Garching built these individually, fitting a motorsport-derived straight-six into a sedan that gave almost nothing away from the outside. This one shows 144,000 miles and has been used the way the car was meant to be used.

This 1991 BMW M5 is powered by the S38 inline-six paired with a five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. It wears Sterling Silver Metallic over Black Nappa leather and rides on 17" M-System I wheels with turbine covers. The current owner purchased the car in 2023 and has added approximately 1,500 of the 144,000 miles shown. It is offered on dealer consignment at no reserve with a damage-free Carfax report, service records, the factory stereo, and a clean California title.

Exterior

The car is finished in Sterling Silver Metallic (244) and features a sunroof, fog lights, dual exhaust outlets, and the revised front air dam, rear valance, and rocker panels that distinguish the M5 from a standard E34. The paint is worn: damage is present on the driver's door and fading is visible across multiple panels. Detailed photographs of the exterior imperfections are presented in the gallery.

Wheels, Suspension & Brakes

The 17" M-System I wheels use directional turbine-style covers and are mounted with Federal Super Steel 595 tires. Blemishes are visible on the wheels. The factory self-leveling rear suspension has been replaced with coilovers per the selling dealer, and braking is handled by four-wheel ventilated discs with ABS.

Interior

Black Nappa leather covers the heated power-adjustable front sport seats, the door panels, and the center console. Amenities include an onboard computer, a short-shifter, and an Alpine stereo, with the factory head unit included in the sale. The passenger-side front door panel shows signs of separating, the cruise control is disconnected, and the selling dealer states that the air conditioning does not blow cold. The steering wheel frames a 180-mph speedometer, an 8,000-rpm tachometer, and gauges for oil temperature, coolant temperature, and fuel level.

Engine & Drivetrain

The S38B36 inline-six was factory rated at 310 horsepower and 265 lb-ft of torque, sending power to the rear wheels through a Getrag 280/5 five-speed manual transmission and a limited-slip differential. The car was designated a gross polluter by the state of California in February 2007 and most recently passed a California emissions test in August 2020.
