1991 Mercedes-Benz
Sold — $8,250
The W126 is the generation that built the S-Class reputation — over-engineered, understated, and constructed to a standard Mercedes has arguably never repeated since. The 420SEL is the long-wheelbase V8, and this one carries a service history long enough to be a document in its own right.
This 1991 Mercedes-Benz 420SEL shows 96,400 miles and is finished in grey over a matching grey interior. Power comes from the 4.2-liter V8 paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. The car is unmodified and carries a clean title and a clear Carfax report, with no rust present. A completed pre-purchase inspection is available on request.
Exterior
The classic grey finish presents honestly for its age. Cosmetic work to date includes painting the center pillars and rocker panel, repainting the left quarter panel, and replacing the upper and side moldings on both sides. Noted imperfections include scratches on the front and rear bumpers, a one-inch paint chip on the driver-side quarter panel, cracked paint on the trunk near the license plate, and a hood that would benefit from color sanding and polishing. The bumper paint will need redoing.
Interior
The cabin is trimmed in grey and presents in good order, with the wood trim refinished. The blower motor, left front window switch, and antenna mast have been replaced, and the air conditioning has been converted to R134.
Engine, Drivetrain & Service
The 4.2-liter V8 is paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. Work carried out includes replacement of the timing chain and guides, speed sensors, headlight switch, radiator coolant and hoses, shocks at all four corners, all belts, engine mounts, shifter bushings, rear sway bar links, and the brake rotors, pads, and sensors. The front suspension center links, tie rods, steering damper, idler arm kit, and front lower ball joints have all been replaced. Both front wheel bearings and the transmission and torque converter were replaced in 2002.
The car drives smoothly through the city and on the highway with no unusual noises, starts every time, accelerates strongly, and shifts cleanly through the gears.
Note: Additional details including VIN, service records, and further photography will be provided to serious inquiries.
