1999 Mercedes-Benz
Sold — $17,650
The C140 is the last of the genuinely over-built Mercedes coupes — pillarless, double-glazed, with soft-close doors and an M119 V8 that Mercedes engineers still talk about. This one shows 48,000 miles.
This 1999 Mercedes-Benz CL500 is a C140-generation pillarless coupe finished in black with chrome trim accents and factory body-color bumpers. Power comes from the naturally aspirated 5.0-liter M119 V8, factory rated at 315 horsepower and 347 lb-ft of torque, paired with a five-speed automatic transmission driving the rear wheels. The car was first registered in California and has since resided in private collections. It is offered with a clean Carfax report.
Exterior
Exterior features include a powered glass sunroof, Parktronic parking sensors, fog lights, xenon headlights with washers, a power antenna, double-pane windows, and soft-close doors. The finish shows some paint blemishes on the front bumper cover, visible in the gallery. The car rides on 16" six-spoke silver alloy wheels wrapped in Kelly tires. From the factory it was equipped with a hydropneumatic rear suspension and Electronic Stability Program, and braking is by ventilated discs at all four corners.
Interior
The cabin features heated power-adjustable front seats upholstered in black Nappa leather, appointed with dual-zone automatic climate control, a Kenwood head unit, cruise control, and wood trim on the center console and dashboard. The headliner was replaced in August 2024, and interior materials are well preserved with light wear consistent with the mileage. The leather-wrapped steering wheel frames a 160-mph speedometer, a tachometer with a 6,000-rpm redline, and gauges for oil pressure, coolant temperature, instant fuel economy, and fuel level. The digital odometer reads 48,000 miles.
Engine & Drivetrain
The M119 V8 is highly regarded for its refinement and durability, and this example benefits from a replacement accessory drive belt fitted in 2020. The factory hydropneumatic rear suspension contributes to the composed ride that characterized Mercedes' flagship engineering of the era.
