Backdates are usually an exercise in nostalgia. This one is an exercise in engineering. Beneath the long-hood silhouette and the Platinum Silver paint sits a 4.0-liter flat-six making close to 350 horsepower at the wheels, a gearbox rebuilt around a Wavetrac differential, and carbon-ceramic rotors behind 993 Turbo calipers. It looks like 1973 and drives like nothing of the sort.

This 1991 Porsche 964 Carrera 2 began life as a US-market Cabriolet and was converted to a fixed-roof configuration through the professional integration of a genuine Porsche 911 roof section, improving torsional rigidity over the factory-reinforced convertible chassis. A full carbon fiber long-hood backdate kit from Van Thull Developments in the Netherlands followed, along with a complete refinish in Platinum Silver Metallic (M7T). The multi-year build was carried out under the current owner, and the car shows just over 100 miles since completion.

Exterior

The carbon fiber bodywork from Van Thull Developments carries projector headlamps, an integrated front spoiler, a hood-mounted fuel filler, black bullet mirrors, a custom ducktail spoiler, a drilled acrylic engine cover, a black decklid grille, and dual center-exit exhaust outlets. The car rides on 17" Fuchs-style Fikse forged wheels wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport tires and secured with Silverlake Projects titanium studs and hardware.

Interior

The cabin was fully restored in brown leather and Alcantara over extensive Dynamat, foam, and neoprene insulation. Carbon fiber interior tubs were fitted, painted to match the exterior, and lined with brown wool square-weave carpeting. RS-style GTS Classics bucket seats use basketweave inserts that coordinate with woven dashboard trim, while drilled aluminum pedals, floorboards, and a billet shift knob carry the motorsport theme through. A retrimmed MOMO Prototipo steering wheel fronts fully functional backdated gauges, including a custom central tachometer. Air conditioning and power windows remain operational, and the car is pre-wired for audio with front speakers already in place. The front luggage compartment is trimmed to match the cabin.

Engine & Drivetrain

Power comes from a William Knight-built 4.0-liter naturally aspirated flat-six using a Porsche 997 GT3 80.4mm crankshaft and intermediate gear, a GT3 oil pump, Mahle Motorsports 102mm cylinders, CP 102mm pistons at 10.8:1 compression, CP lightweight connecting rods with CARR bolts, Extreme Cylinder heads, Knight 80 camshafts, and a Silverlake drive-by-wire carbon fiber intake. Engine management is handled by an Emtron KV8 ECU paired with a Technica Racewire mil-spec harness, tuned by Beau Brown. The exhaust uses equal-length Cargraphics headers with 200-cell catalytic converters and full emissions integration. Dyno results after break-in show 349.8 horsepower at the wheels at 7,100 rpm, an estimated 411 at the crank, alongside 286.6 lb-ft of wheel torque at 5,500 rpm.

The five-speed G50 manual transmission was fully disassembled and rebuilt by AASE Motorsports with a Wavetrac limited-slip differential, an AASco lightweight flywheel, an MPL billet clutch slave cylinder, and FDM Golden Rod shifter linkage.

Chassis, Suspension & Brakes

Steering and suspension components were comprehensively refurbished by Van Thull Developments, including full disassembly, blasting, re-anodizing, and reassembly with all new bushings. Further upgrades include BBi CNC billet aluminum uprights, BBi tie rods, and Bilstein PSS16 adjustable coilover dampers. Braking is handled by Porsche 993 Turbo front and 993 Carrera RS rear calipers clamping custom carbon-ceramic rotors, with stainless-steel lines throughout. Power steering has been deleted for added feedback, and an electric system can be fitted by the next owner if preferred.

Note: The odometer reflects mileage accumulated since completion of the build. The sale includes a clean title. Additional details including VIN, service records, and further photography will be provided to serious inquiries.
